Candidates

Lawrence Webb

1. What do you plan to do in order to make sure you remain ‘in touch’ with the electorate?
I will hold regular surgeries around the constituency and will also make use of social media to encourage the younger voters to engage with politics.
2. What makes you the best candidate for this constituency?
I was brought up here, went to school here, still live here and my children attend local schools, so have a vested interest in the community I will serve.
3. What has the current Member achieved that you believe has been successful?
Nothing in 2010 she had a list of pledges none of which have been fulfilled.
4. In your opinion, is austerity working? What should we take from the state of the economy during this Government’s tenure?
Austerity is a myth. This government has increased foreign aid to £12 billion p.a. Our membership of the EU is an additional £55million per day. The problem is our government has chosen to give our money away rather than spend it here.
5. Does (legal) immigration need more limitations or is it vital for the UK?
Absolutely we need controls on immigration. Currently 450 million EU citizens have the right to come to the UK to live, work or claim benefits.
6. Many people are concerned about the cost of living in the UK, with wages having failed to rise in line with the price of food, energy and rent in recent years. How can this be corrected?
Wages have been depressed by the availability of cheap unskilled migrants from the EU. This in turn has pushed up house prices and rent exacerbating the problem. The first step to solving this is ending mass uncontrolled immigration.
7. How would you like to see the NHS change in the future in order to become more successful?
Firstly an increasing funding ensuring that it goes on clinical services and not administration.
8. What measures do you think need to be taken to decrease unemployment, particularly youth unemployment and those who have never been employed?
In the short term that change the legislation so that employers can give British jobs to British workers. But the longer term solution would require investment and funding to ensuring that our young worker have the skills that employers need.
9. Does the lack of diversity in Parliament equate to a lack of representation?
No. Anyone who is eligible can stand for parliament.
10 . If an EU Referendum were to take place, how would you encourage your constituents to vote and why?
I would encourage then to vote to leave the EU. More than 75% of our laws now originate from Brussels controlling such things from immigration to vacuum cleaners. It is only when we leave the EU will we be able to concentrate on those things that are in Britain’s national interest.
