Amy Gray

I’m the daughter of a nurse and a soldier so the ethos of public service runs through my family. I first moved to Hackney North in 2005 when I taught English at The Skinners’ Company’s School for Girls in their old premises on Stamford Hill and in Springfield. It was while I was teaching there and living in Stoke Newington that I became interested in politics and subsequently got involved with the Conservative Party.

Since 2012 my husband and I have lived near Hackney Downs in Clapton. I live here in the constituency I want to represent. I’m a governor of a primary school in Hoxton. We’re both very involved in the life of our church and are active members of the Conservative Christian Fellowship. I keep fit by cycling around Hackney and doing a few lengths of the Lido occasionally. When not working or campaigning, I keep Clapton Library’s reservations shelf full and love making the most of our city’s cultural opportunities.

I have four priorities for our area.
1. We need more affordable and social housing, allocated fairly, and we need to make better use of the buildings we already have to provide the homes we need.
2. We require enough good school places for all our children, so that everyone who grows up here in Hackney has the best possible start in life.
3. Our local small businesses need support to grow and create jobs so that unemployment continues to fall.
4. I will champion an NHS that puts patients first and that remains free at the point of use.
Under a Conservative-led government, we have better schools, lower crime and more people in work – unemployment in Hackney has fallen by 45% since 2010. Voting for the Conservatives will ensure that our businesses continue to thrive, our public services are better run and our children have a better future. Vote Gray this May.
